Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood is not happy with BP. The oil company has paid only 63% of the claims filed by Mississippi property owners and businesses who claim damage suffered by the oil spill.

BP $20 Billion Fund Will Start Paying Claims in Early August

Ken Feinberg, the White House appointee who oversees the $20 billion BP set aside for claims of lost income and damages, said today money will be paid beginning in early August. So far, the fund has been untouched. He said BP promised to pay all eligible claims even if the price tag blows past $20 billion.

Red-Flag Day — Oil Soils Texas; BP $ Can’t Cover Property Value Losses

NOAA predicted there was only a 40% chance BP’s oil would hit Texas. But apparently the spill beat NOAA’s odds.

This weekend, five gallons of tarballs were found on the Bolivar Peninsula, northeast of Galveston, and two tarball gallons hit Galveston Island while 35 gallons of tarballs were scooped off Crystal Beach. This brings the total of contaminated shoreline to 492 miles and counting.
